Qld: Too many Homers unhealthy, says Beattie

Queensland Premier PETER BEATTIE says too many HOMER SIMPSONS among the populationare costing health services millions of dollars.

Mr BEATTIE was launching Heart Week and a discussion paper on the future of Queenslandhealth services over the next two decades.

He says the world only needs one HOMER SIMPSON -- the much-loved couch potato cartooncharacter created by MATT GROENING.

He says reducing heart disease, which causes a higher rate of deaths in Queenslandthan in any other state, could save hundreds of lives and millions of dollars in acutecare and hospital readmissions.

Mr BEATTIE says the state can expect to see some major advances in health technologyover the next two decades -- but bad habits could cancel them out.
