Fed: Telstra promises independent review of boy's death

Telstra has ordered an independent inquiry into delays in fixing a phone service inregional Victoria after the death of a 10-year-old boy.

BARRY and ROSE BOULDING, who live on a property in north eastern Victoria near thevillage of KERGUNYAH, say their son suffered a fatal asthma attack while their phone wasout of order.

Telstra chief executive ZIGGY SWITKOWSKI says he's personally saddened by the deathand Telstra is doing all it can to help and support the family.

In addition to an internal examination of processes, Dr SWITKOWSKI says he's orderedauditors PricewaterhouseCoopers to conduct an independent review and report back withina week.

He says Telstra's reviewing the tragedy with the utmost seriousness and urgency andwill take whatever action is found to be necessary.
